They came today and took away the big pile from the garage, sweeping away the last vestiges of the old facility. Except for the tub/shower, the room is fully functional. OK, so there's no mirror, the light is hanging from the wall, and the old vanity/sink are back in there, but the floor and toilet are just the way they're supposed to be.

In a few weeks (3-5, depending on the vagaries of the world), the vanity, mirror, and the rest of the tile will arrive. And then the workers will come back, install them, and get the walls ready for painting.

So there you have it -- a 2-week remodeling of the bathroom. To be continued when something happens....

Well, the workers seem to be finished, for now. The old vanity is back in its original place, the toilet is installed, and the place has been cleaned up, slick as a whistle. They even hung the door back on its hinges and took away all their tools, their workbench, the vaccuum cleaner, the works. They did leave their radio in the space where the medicine cabinet will go when it arrives.... I'd guess they have 2-3 days work when the remaining tile, new vanity, and the cabinet arrive.

I wonder if the toilet and sink are safe to use? I must call the contractor and find out....

Some things come, some things go. On the down side, several rows of tile are now gone -- the tile that was to be above the decorative band of blue and green tile (the decorative tile is still on order), and that was on the wall yesterdya, is no more. I haven't had the heart to go out in the garage and look for it. Guess someone measured wrong?

Then again, other things look good. The grout is on the floor, so it looks finished. The tub wall still needs work, though. I guess everything can't happen at once. There's also a pile of molding and trim in the bedroom, which I presume will soon find its way onto the walls and along the edge of the tile.

The workers pretty well finished the tiling on Friday. The floor is done -- out to the edges, and with a very nice marble lintel that I hadn't been expecting. I mean to say, I had expected a lintel, but not one that looks as nice as this one.

All that's left at this point is a lot of finish carpentry, the tile edge around the top of the tub (I supposed they ran out of the right shaped pieces...), and the decorative border (which will go in the space where the two-by-fours are holding the upper layer of tile). The room looks so much brighter than it ever has before -- even without finished walls, and only with a single bare bulb on the wall. I guess it's getting to be time to pick paint for the walls.
