Back to the Alps....

One of the most spectacular city views in the world is this one -- the view of Lesser Town and the Prague Castle from the center of the Charles Bridge. In the years I lived in Prague, I never tired of the magic of this scene. |
|
The afternoon we arrived in Prague by train from Munich, we made our first stop in Old Town Square. Here I am with the tourist's traditional quick snack: a 'parek v rohliku' (sausage in a roll) and bottled water. All for the low-low price of 50 crowns (the water was 35), or $1.25. Behind me is the Tyn Cathedral, one of Prague's landmarks.

A night view (taken without a tripod, obviously) of the castle from the Charles Bridge.

In Prague, we stayed in a lovely bed and breakfast, the Penzion Dientzenhofer, a 16th century house. We had a spacious room (2 bedrooms and a large bath), and our hosts were most gracious.

Our room is the two open windows on the 2nd floor in this picture.

This astrological clock is on the Old Town Hall in Prague. Along with the time of day, it tracks the seasons, signs of the zodiac, and phases of the moon. Every hour small figures come out of the doors and celebrate the new hour, as the figure of death (to the right of the upper clock face) rings the bell.

|
Here we are on Old Town Square in front of, of all possible attractions, a mechanical bull. Off of which, I might add, we saw a number of folks -- all of whom appeared to have enjoyed the local beer -- get thrown.

This view is just about exactly the one I had from my office in Prague. Needless to say, I miss it.
