Back to Krakow....

Inside the Wieliczka Salt Mine Salt has been mined near Krakow for centuries. The mines were closed in the early 1990s because of flooding, but large sections are open for visitors. Miners carved out statues and entire rooms from the rock salt. Here, we see Ken in front of a statue.
Inside the Wieliczka Salt Mine
Some of the chambers are immense, and are shored up with large wooden timbers to prevent the rock salt from slowly compressing and eliminating the open space. This chamber is more than 40 feet tall.
Cathedral Inside the Wieliczka Salt Mine
Pehaps the most amazing room in the mines an entire cathedral carved out of the rock salt. The floors are carved and polished, the chandeliers are made of rock salt crystals, and the stations of the cross are carved out of salt.

On to Zakopane....
